Small Gingham Picnic Basket
Discover the charm of our Small Gingham Picnic Basket, a delightful addition to any home decor. This basket is a smaller version of our medium-sized wall baskets, perfect for adding variation to your dramatic wall display or serving as a catch-all on your dresser.
Handcrafted by skilled women artisans from the Batoro tribe in the rural mountains of Western Uganda, each basket is a testament to their artistry and dedication. These talented weavers are part of a cooperative that empowers single mothers, widows, and other marginalized women, providing them with training and additional income opportunities.
Crafted from all-natural, sustainably sourced raffia and banana fibers, this basket is both eco-friendly and durable. The unique, bold mix of natural and AZO-free dyes used in its creation is derived from various plant materials grown in the artisans' villages. The women artisans grow, harvest, and produce these natural dyes, showcasing their extensive knowledge and skill.
The hand-dyed raffia is expertly twisted and wrapped around coils of banana fibers, resulting in a basket with intricate designs and sturdy structure. A convenient hanging loop on the back allows this versatile piece to be used as wall decor or a tabletop accessory.
Each basket is meticulously handmade by weavers who balance their craft with household duties, dedicating 3 or more hours a day to weaving. Depending on the complexity, a basket can take days to weeks to complete, making each piece a unique work of art. Handmade in Uganda, this basket measures approximately 8" x 1.5", making it a perfect fit for any space.
