Each basket is meticulously handcrafted by talented women artisans from the Batoro tribe in the remote mountains of Western Uganda. These artisans are part of a cooperative that empowers single mothers, widows, and marginalized women by providing them with training and additional income opportunities.
Crafted from all-natural, sustainably sourced raffia and banana fibers, this basket showcases a unique blend of natural and AZO-free dyes. The dyes are derived from plant materials grown in the artisans' villages, requiring a high level of skill and knowledge to produce.
The intricate designs are created by twisting and wrapping hand-dyed raffia around coils of banana fibers. A convenient hanging loop on the back allows the basket to be used as wall decor or a tabletop accessory.
Each basket is a labor of love, taking days to weeks to complete as artisans balance weaving with other household duties. No two baskets are identical, with slight variations in size and color, making each piece truly special and unique. Handmade in Uganda, the approximate size of the basket is 8" x 2".
