In Western Uganda, these charming, pointy-topped baskets have a rich tradition as decorative vessels for coffee beans. When guests arrive, hosts offer them a coffee bean or two to chew on, providing a refreshing boost after a long journey.

Each basket is meticulously handcrafted by talented women artisans from the Batoro tribe, residing in the remote mountains of Western Uganda. These skilled weavers are part of a cooperative that empowers single mothers, widows, and other marginalized women, offering them training and a means to earn additional income through basket weaving.

Crafted from all-natural, sustainably sourced raffia and banana fibers, these baskets boast a bold mix of natural and AZO-free dyes. The natural dyes are derived from various plant materials grown in the artisans' villages, showcasing the women's expertise in growing, harvesting, and producing these vibrant colors.

The hand-dyed raffia is expertly twisted and wrapped around coils of banana fibers, creating intricate designs and a sturdy structure. Each basket is a labor of love, taking days to weeks to complete, as artisans balance weaving with other household responsibilities. No two baskets are identical, with slight variations in size and color, making each piece truly special and unique.
